December 14 General Meeting

GUEST SPEAKER: Mary Martin, Knitwear Designer
Saturday, Dec 14, 1–4 PM

Mary Martin (MaryWMartinKnits) is known for creating innovative handknitted fabrics with no wrong side. Her quest began several years ago, while knitting chemo caps for a friend. Mary wanted to create a cap with a distinct look on each side. Her curiosity led her to pioneer two techniques—Fission and Fusion Knitting—that enabled her to make the kind of cap she had imagined. In Fission Knitting, two colors of yarn are held together in a marl; motifs are created by working one color of yarn at a time. The motifs on each side can be different. The background in Fusion Knitting is a two-color garter stitch. The motifs on each side of the fabric are the same, but knitted in different colors.

Program
Check-in begins at 12:30pm.

From her home in Toronto, Canada, Mary will speak about the evolution of the Fusion and Fission Knitting techniques. Each new development along her path of exploration elicited further questions and presented new possibilities. Mary will show many examples of both kinds of knitting and will discuss the properties of the resulting fabric. Together, we will each knit our own swatch of marled fabric using two colors.

A discount for all Mary Martin’s Ravelry patterns is provided to all members.

Membership renewals and payments of dues will not be accepted on this day. (Dues may be paid online at any time!!)
