GENERAL MEETING
Saturday, December 9, 1–4 PM
New York Society for Ethical Culture
2 West 64th Street (at Central Park West), New York, NY
GUEST SPEAKERS: Carol Feller, Teacher, Designer, Author, and Yarn Maker
Carol Feller’s academic training, first as a textile artist and then as a structural engineer, is apparent in her approach to design and knitting. Top-down, bottom-up, side-to-side, or even diagonal, her designs—often characterized by seamless construction and clever shaping—keep knitters intrigued as they knit. On Ravelry, Carol is represented by 365 designs! Sweaters and vests for men, women, and children; caps, mitts, scarves, and cowls; decorative pillows; and even a knitted pencil case. Her work has been widely published in books and magazines and she travels the world, teaching in yarn shops and at fiber
festivals. She is a captivating teacher! To feel like you’ve travelled to Ireland, follow her blog.
Presentation
Structural engineering…and…knitting? Carol draws from this unique academic background to do what she loves: think of new ways to create knitwear. In her presentation, she will demonstrate how to combine traditional stitch patterns with seamless knitting techniques to create well-fitting garments that are a joy to make. Carol will also talk us through the process of resizing an existing pattern to match our gauge swatch— when we love the fabric of the swatch we created, but the gauge doesn’t quite match the written pattern.
Show and Tell
There will be no Show and Tell this month. It will resume next month. Look for photos of these beautiful creations from previous months on the BAKG website and Instagram and Facebook pages.
