BAKG GENERAL MEETING
Saturday, February 10, 1–4 PM
(check-in begins 12:30pm)
New York Society for Ethical Culture
2 West 64th Street, Manhattan
GUEST SPEAKER: Krysten Grymes,
founder of yarnTh3ory
Guests Welcome!
By day, Krysten Grymes is a contract specialist for the United States Marine Corps and by night, a yarn wizard. She is also the Maker, Designer, and Teacher behind yarnTh3ory. What began as a personal blog during college to chronicle her journey of learning to crochet evolved into a teaching platform in 2020 and has flourished ever since. Boasting 20 years of crochet and 10 years of knitting experience, Krysten shares easy-to-follow tutorials online via YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. She also teaches crochet classes for Vogue Knitting LIVE! and in her local community. Krysten loves to design wearable accessories and home decor utilizing simple construction and interesting textures. Krysten and her husband reside in Richmond, Virginia, with their pup Fiona.
Presentation
Have you ever wondered about that lovely i-cord edge finishing technique that takes knitted projects to the next level? After a discussion of how knitting and crochet intersect, Krysten will demonstrate two ways to make an i-cord edge: knitted-on i-cord and crocheted i-cord. She’ll also show a variety of ways to apply i-cord to projects. This workshop is beginner friendly, so no crochet experience is necessary. For the small project that we will create in this meeting, bring knitting needles (two double-pointed needles, size 9 or 10) and/or a large crochet hook (5.5 or 6 mm/size I or J). Swivel lobster clasps and 3 mm cotton cord will be provided.
Show and Tell
Bring it on! We can’t wait to see what you’ve created since our last live meeting. Showing your work will bring joy, spark ideas, and nudge others to complete their own WIPs. (And thus, you may just be saving the life of an old yarn ball stuffed in a closet somewhere!) As always, only one Show and Tell item per meeting, please.
Super Yarn Sale
Did you miss the Annual Yarn Auction? Do not despair. We will have lovely yarn for sale before and after this meeting. Come early, stay late, shop the many tables run by our incredible volunteers. Please bring cash or checks.
Bring a Guest
Guests are welcome! A guest’s first visit is free. Subsequent visits are $10, which may be applied to annual dues if paid on the meeting day.
Charity Table
Drop off the knitting you have done for charity since last we met or sit and knit at our Charity Knitting table with Charity Chair Barbara Beckley. Look for photos of these beautiful creations from previous months on the BAKG website and Instagram and Facebook pages.
