March 2025 General Meeting

GUEST SPEAKER: Faina Goberstein, knitwear designer, teacher, and author
Saturday, Mar 8, 1–4 PM

Faina Goberstein—the designer behind FGDesigns—is a professional teacher of knitting and an author. (She is also a math professor!) Unusual stitch patterns with interesting texture paired with perfect finishing are the hallmark of her designs and the focus of her inspirational classes. Faina has taught in person both here and abroad; virtually for Knitting LIVE! by Vogue Knitting and Rowan Connects, among others; and online through Interweave.com and Craftsy.com classes. She is the author of Fresh Slipstitch and the co-author of The Art of Slip-Stitch Knitting and The Art of Seamless Knitting. Her designs often appear in Rowan, Vogue Knitting, Interweave Knits, Cast-On, and Farm and Fiber Knits magazines, and numerous books.

Presentation
Faina’s talk, titled “Every Design Has a Story,” will focus on her design journey and publication history. Many of her nearly 200 designs incorporate the unusual stitches and the elegant and well-fitted classic shapes she is known for. Faina will also discuss her books and will demonstrate her technique for slip stitch lace.
HOMEWORK: Cast on 25 stitches in a DK or worsted-weight yarn in a solid color.
Row1 (WS): Sl1, purl to last st, k1.
Row 2 (RS): Sl1, knit to end.
Repeat these two rows two more times. End with Row 2.
Take advantage of a generous 25% discount on any patterns in Faina’s extensive portfolio on Ravelry (code is available for members only). Her books, The Art of Seamless Knitting and Fresh Slipstitch, will be available for purchase.

A Yarn Sale Like You’ve Never Seen!
Our yarn closet is still very full. So, we are holding one more yarn sale to really clear out the space. We’re going nuclear on the prices! All yarns are priced to sell! Make a list of yarns you want and bring a tote to carry your purchases home. Tell your friends to do the same. (Bring cash or check.)

Show and Tell
What have you been up to since our last meeting? We can’t wait to see what you created. As always, only one Show and Tell item per meeting, please.

Bring a Guest
Guests are welcome! A guest’s first visit is free. Subsequent visits are $10, which may be applied to annual dues if paid on the meeting day.

Charity Table
Drop off the knitting you have done for charity since last we met. Or sit and knit at our Charity Knitting table.
